About Aurobindo Vidyamandir
Who we are
Founded in 1976, D.H.B. Road Aurobindo Vidyamandir stands as one of Durgapur’s most respected English-medium schools. The school was established by visionary members of the Jadavpur University Alumni Association, Durgapur Branch, who aspired to create an institution dedicated to quality education and all-round development.
The idea of founding a school that combined academic excellence with moral and cultural values was brought to life under the leadership of Sri Tripurari Chatterjee, the then President of the Association, with immense contribution from Lt. Sri Ramlal Banerjee and other devoted members.
The name Aurobindo Vidyamandir was proposed by Dr. Gokul Mukherjee, then General Manager of Alloy Steel Plant, to honor the educational legacy of Sri Aurobindo, who once served as Principal of the National Council of Education — later known as Jadavpur University.
From its humble beginnings at 2A, Kanishka Road, the school shifted to its permanent campus on Harshabardhan Road in 1984. Over the decades, it has grown into a thriving educational institution known for academic strength, discipline, and cultural enrichment.
